WHY SMART UNIVERSITY?

Electricity costs due to public areas of the universities are high. The pilot studies carried out by the university administration on this subject show that 60% of the total consumption is due to air conditioning. In addition, in another pilot study, it was seen that it is possible to save approximately 200 thousand kWh from the annual electricity consumption of 1.9 million kWh, with the arrangements that can only be made in the lighting systems.

In addition to energy-saving, effective use of human resources is also of great importance. With the planning of the personnel workload and the correct scheduling of the working times, it will be possible to do more work with less personnel. In addition to these regulations, environmental regulations such as automatic irrigation systems and smart trash cans to be realized within the campus can also enable staff to use their time more effectively.

Classrooms and common areas on the campus should also be planned correctly. It has been observed that factors such as temperature, humidity, and amount of light in the classrooms where the education takes place are crucial in the students' concentration levels. It is necessary to keep these factors in appropriate ranges. Otherwise, the system's automatic activation and balancing can increase efficiency for the class. In addition, it is thought that with the virtual campus tours and virtual laboratories that can be established, it will be advantageous for the students who are in the new preference period to get to know the school remotely and for the existing students to follow some courses virtually. These systems, which are desired to be implemented, can also lead to energy savings. Similarly, reducing the waiting times by monitoring the occupancy rates in the common areas will enable these areas to be used more effectively.

For the arrangements and improvements to be made on time, it is necessary to follow up on the complaints and satisfaction of both the staff and the students. And as a result, support services need to be performed quickly. It is thought that the problem detection rate will exceed 90% with the rapid feedback system that is desired to be developed.

For these reasons, there is a need to conduct a study covering all areas within the campus to consume public resources more efficiently within the scope of the smart-university.
